DPA and Weight Management: New Study Explores an Anti-Obesity Mechanism
Share
New lab research is adding weight-management to the list of potential benefits linked to DPA. A 2026 study published in Advances in Biomarker Sciences and Technology examined how DPA affects fat cells at a cellular level, and found that it significantly reduced fat accumulation and even triggered some fat cells to break down. The mechanism appears to involve activating AMPK, a key metabolic "switch" that shifts cells from fat-storage mode into fat-burning mode, while also lowering inflammation linked to obesity-related insulin resistance. While this research was conducted in lab-grown cells rather than humans, it offers an early but intriguing look at how DPA might support healthy metabolism beyond its more well-known roles in heart, gut, and eye health.
